I started using CentOS over several other Distros that I have been testing ever the years. I still have an Ubuntu laptop just to keep up to date with things seeing that it’s one of the most popular ones.
I’ve covered installing Kernels before but I wanted to refresh that topic and include how to do it on CentOS.

I never use anything but LTS if and when I put Ubuntu on my machines so I will not cover 15.10 or 16.10. These are some of the things to do right after installing Ubuntu on your computer.
This is not an exhaustive list nor is it the only things to do. If you have anything to add, please leave a comment below.
Most of these steps will be terminal based so start up a terminal. Press the super key (the Key Formerly Known as the Windows Key) to bring up the Unity dash. Then, type in terminal and choose the icon for the terminal program.

Security expert Bruce Schneier recently talked about how someone is learning how to take down the internet. We have seen lots of companies talk about attacks on their infrastructure, breaches, hacking and stealing accounts, etc. As per the companies, it seems name of the attacks are made out to seem like probing for ways to get into networks and do harm.
It reminds me of the US’s Cold War program of flying high-altitude planes over the Soviet Union to force their air-defense systems to turn on, to map their capabilities.

What is the singularity?
I honestly was not aware of this topic so I set out to do some research to open my mind and man was my mind blown. Basically what I understand is that the singularity is a point in time when technology will surpass human intelligence and humans will start to become the minority in intelligence.
Vernor Vinge introduced the term Technological Singularity in his science fiction novel Marooned in Realtime(1986) and later developed the concept in his essay the Coming Technological Singularity (1993). His definition of Singularity is widely known as the event horizon thesis and in essence says that trans or post-human minds will imply a weirder future than we can imagine:
“Within thirty years, we will have the technological means to create superhuman intelligence. Shortly after, the human era will be ended. […] I think it’s fair to call this event a singularity. It is a point where our models must be discarded and a new reality rules. As we move closer and closer to this point, it will loom vaster and vaster over human affairs till the notion becomes a commonplace. Yet when it finally happens it may still be a great surprise and a greater unknown.” (1)

This is good news for many that could only get a connection less than 10Mbps down.
The FCC’s release goes to say that:
Rural Consumers Must Receive Broadband Delivering At Least 10 Mbps Downloads, 1 Mbps Uploads from Providers Who Benefit from Connect America Support.
Congress directed the FCC to make available in rural areas communications services that are reasonably comparable to those in urban areas. Increasing the Connect America speed requirement means that rural Americans, like urban Americans, can tap the benefits provided by broadband through faster web downloads, improved video streaming, and service capable of supporting multiple users in a household.
AT&T and Verizon have both pleaded with the FCC to keep the definition of ‘broadband’ locked at the 4:1 threshold.
“Given the pace at which the industry is investing in advanced capabilities, there is no present need to redefine ‘advanced’ capabilities,” wrote AT&T. “Consumer behavior strongly reinforces the conclusion that a 10Mbps service exceeds what many Americans need today to enable basic, high-quality transmissions,” AT&T wrote later in its filing. Verizon made similar arguments.

Windows users on Windows 7 got a treat in a secret feature called God Mode that gave them access to just about ALL of the controls, settings and options built into Windows. In this article we’ll walk you through unlocking God Mode in Win8. I am told this can be done with Windows Vista as well.
- Right click on the desktop and create a new folder, name it whatever you like.
- Right click on the folder and click rename.
- Copy and paste the following as the new file name:
