Minecraft to get Story Mode in 2015

Telltale Games has announced on its blog that it’s working with Minecraft developer Mojang to create a series of games set in the world of the hit franchise.

Minecraft: Story Mode will be an all-new narrative-driven game series developed by Telltale in collaboration with Mojang. Set in the world of Minecraft, the series will feature an original story, driven by player choice. It will not be an add-on for Minecraft, but rather a separate stand-alone product that will premiere in 2015 on consoles, computers and mobile devices.

Telltale has made games in the Walking Dead, Back to the Future, and Game of Thrones universes, to name a few.

Creating your Own Minecraft server – EASY!

We showed you how to create a Minecraft server on Linux, here’s how to do it on Windows. Go have fun 🙂

Minecraft has many qualities that assisted it to turn into a gaming phenomenon: ever-expanding environments to explore, the freedom to craft complex things from simple materials. But one of my favorite aspects of Minecraft is how easy it’s to host your own Minecraft server. With only a Windows computer, a decent internet connection (with a static IP), and some computer knowledge, anyone can build a private world for a few friends to share.

How to migrate your Xbox 360 Minecraft Maps to your Xbox One

Build with your imagination! Minecraft, the best-selling game on Xbox 360, is now available on Xbox One. Create and explore your very own world where the only limit is what you can imagine – just be sure to build a shelter before night comes to keep yourself safe from monsters. Play on your own, or with up to 4 players split screen, or 8 players online.

If you’ve played Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition you can get Minecraft: Xbox One Edition for only $4.99*. You also are able to get content you already paid for on your 360 on your One by heading to the store and selecting “Get It Free” from the store page.

Migrating

The migration process is fairly simple but lengthy if you have several to numerous maps to transfer, reason being that you can only transfer one map at a time and you have to complete a full transfer before you can move on to another map. One thing to note is that despite the Xbox One version supports larger maps, your existing maps will remain the same size.

On the Xbox 360

  • Log into your console
  • Start Minecraft
  • Go to the Play Game screen
  • Highlight a saved game and press Y to upload it to the cloud.

On the Xbox One

  • Log into your console
  • Start Minecraft
  • Go to the Play Game screen
  • Press X to download your map from the cloud.

Keep doing that until you have all your maps migrated. Have fun.

* Upgrade price is available for players that have played Minecraft: Xbox 360 with their Xbox Live Gold account.

Microsoft to acquire Minecraft maker Mojang for $2.5B

Microsoft confirmed it will acquire the studio that created the hit “sandbox” game Minecraft for $2.5 billion, a move that could help bolster the company’s Xbox and mobile ambitions.

In a statement released Monday, Microsoft says the deal will close by the end of this year.

“Minecraft is more than a great game franchise,” said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in a statement. “It is an open world platform, driven by a vibrant community we care deeply about, and rich with new opportunities for that community and for Microsoft.”

Launched in 2009 for PCs, Minecraft is an open-world game where players roam a simple landscape with forests and beaches, breaking apart the environment and building new objects like a digital Lego set.

It has surged in popularity over the last five years. Microsoft says the game has topped 100 million downloads. Although it’s been available on Apple’s iOS devices for nearly three years, it’s currently the second most popular paid app for iPhone. Retail versions of the video game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 were the third best-selling titles in the U.S. last month, according to NPD Group.

“The Minecraft players have taken the game and turned it into something that surpassed all of our expectations,” says Mojang CEO Carl Manneh in a statement. “The acquisition by Microsoft brings a new chapter to the incredible story.”

Microsoft says Minecraft will remain available on all its current platforms, including PlayStation, a rival to the company’s Xbox brand. Continue reading Microsoft to acquire Minecraft maker Mojang for $2.5B

How To: Minecraft Server on Ubuntu

So I’ve been playing Minecraft on the Xbox360 for some time now and it started getting a bit repetitious and bland. My son got into the PC version and I was sitting with him and his friends for a few sessions and it got my interest. This weekend I decided to set up a server so they can have somewhere to put their creations and not have to worry about being kicked from someone else’s server or have their city griefed (Griefing is the act of irritating and angering people in video games through the use of destruction, construction, or social engineering.) as well, they were talking about starting to make YouTube vids so this will be good for them. I thought this would have been harder that what it turned out to be, but it wasn’t. So for those wanting to do it but are not sure about how go about it or are afraid of getting their hands dirty in Linux, I created this tutorial. Continue reading How To: Minecraft Server on Ubuntu
