How to restore the Panels in Ubuntu to their default settings

We’ve been there before… You delete something from one of your panels or a panel itself. Sure, you could create a new blank panel and rebuild it from scratch; but why waste your time when you can simply restore them?   Open an terminal by either of the following:

  • Click Applications Accessories Terminal
  • Press Alt+F2 and in the run dialog box, type gnome-terminal then click on Run.

In the Terminal type the following commands:

gconftool –recursive-unset /apps/panel
rm -rf ~/.gconf/apps/panel
kill gnome-panel

Your panels will appear with their default settings.
